Description

Full Time, Fixed Term for 12 months
This is a fantastic opportunity to work on an innovative digitisation project and develop your cataloguing skills. Unlocking Our Sound Heritage (UOSH) is preserving and transforming access to our most at-risk and vulnerable audio collections by digitally preserving almost half a million sound recordings together with a network of ten audio archiving centres across the UK. For more information please visit the British Library’s website https://www.bl.uk/projects/Unlocking Our Sound Heritage

The internship will allow you to gain professional experience across a range of activities that the project is involved in to preserve audio collections and to make sound content available to the widest possible audience. The role will involve working closely with the UOSH cataloguing team; learning about different analogue and digital formats and gaining practical experience in how audio recordings are prepared, described and digitally preserved for future access.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrable interest in cataloguing and a good understanding of sound recordings and audio heritage. They will possess excellent listening skills and bring their strong attention to detail to their work. They will communicate clearly, write engagingly and will be confident in using the internet and social media for research. As they will be working with a range of German language collections, fluency in German would be of advantage.

This post is part of a National Lottery funded project.

Applicants should note that the internship is open to those who have the right to live and work in the UK. It is offered for the period specified and does not lead to a permanent position with the British Library.

Guter Einstieg fuer Leute, die eine Karriere im Archivbereich anstreben. Bezahlte Praktika sind in dieser Branche sehr selten geworden.
